Scrapbooking Supplies
There is an endless list of supplies that you can buy for the hobby of scrapbooking. Apart from an album, you need various different background papers, cardstock, glue, scissors, punch cutters, rulers, stickers and other embellishments. You may also want to purchase some custom rubber stamps to give your paper a unique look. Customize your album by using different pens and markers for your journaling. Other scrapbooking supplies that we like include embossers, die cuts, different sized brads, rotary cutting tools and mats. Your kit should also include several different sizes of window frame mats, eyelets, buttons, stencils and rub-ons.
One of the best investments you will make is a storage tote or case to store all of your scrapbooking supplies in. There are many styles available from a simple plastic folder to very elaborate multi drawer units. We find the most practical are large tote bags that have several different dividers and pouches. These tote bags are more convenient to take with you if you are taking a class in scrapbooking or simply belong to a scapbooking group. See the article elsewhere on this site describing different storage systems. When you really get going with your scrapbooking you will want to add other supplies to your arsenal. Look for personal cutting systems such as the XYRON, a bigger investment but well worth it. There is also some great scrapbooking software for your computer that will really get the ideas flowing!
However, we have found that this is one hobby that you can really reduce your costs by starting to look at what you already have at home. For instance if you are doing a book for a person who enjoys sewing you may have small fasteners, buttons or ribbon that you can add for embellishment. For a gardening theme you can press flowers between heavy books then use them as decoration in the album. Look around your house and garage for inspiration. If you are doing an album for a child use some of their school art as framing for pictures as well as incorporating the art into the memory book. School sports ribbons can embellish a photo of the child. After all, scrapbooking is really collecting memories on a particular theme, so you don't want to buy all of those memories do you?
